I know this might sound like a silly question, but I am particularly caution when trying new things on my PC. I am on a 20 day free trial with the Avast Internet Security service.I have noticed a feature called: 'Cleanup Premium' under the 'Performance' tab.The contents it recommends to remove to improve the performance of my PC are: Junk Files, Redundant Apps, Inefficient System Settings and Obsolete Registry Entries. My question is more about the Redundant Apps, Inefficient System Settings and Obsolete Registry Entries. Would deleting all of these things not harm my PC in any way?I have posted screenshots of the Redundant Apps, Inefficient System Settings and Obsolete Registry Entries that Avast claims I should delete. Please look at these screenshots and tell me if its safe to go ahead with this because truth be told, my PC is quite slow:blob:blob:blob:Help would be greatly apperciated guys, please let me know if its safe for me to go ahead with this. This product is a huge disappointment. After I paid for the product it took nearly a week to get an activation code from Avast (with no hint they would extend my subscription). I think the program worked the first time I tried it but ever since then it freezes after a minute or two and won't go any further.

After contacting them for help I got an email saying they are working on an update to fix it. Such a basic problem should have been fixed long before they started selling it.

So my opinion is you're paying for a product that doesn't work, and you don't get an extension to your subscription even though it is not the buyer's fault. If you want a product that doesn't do what it promises, then you can make one up yourself and when it doesn't work at least you haven't lost any money. Sorry, but Avast Cleanup Premium gets a zero star rating from me. Hi Avast AVG TeamThank you for your reply last week, which sounded encouraging. I would be willing to modify my criticism if Avast Cleanup ever starts working properly.

Cleaner

But after sending more information to the email address you gave, including ticket number, my original email from Avast Customer Care, and a link to this page containing our exchange, I have heard nothing. Not even an acknowedgment saying someone would look into it.So this is the story so far:1.

Mar 22, 2019  Avast Cleanup comes as a part of the Free Antivirus, Pro Antivirus, Internet Security or Premier. Or you can download and use Avast Cleanup standalone application without using Avast antivirus. Free Trial of Standalone Application. WARNING Avast Cleanup.

After paying for a year's subscription it took me a week to get an activation code, which is very slow service for a tech-type company.2. I thought that the first time I used Avast Cleanup it had worked, but now I think maybe I was fooled into thinking it was working when the blue progress line moved a centimetre.3. In the 20 times I have tried to run it since, it never progresses beyond the first step, even if I leave it all night or go on vacation for a couple of days. I come back and the blue line hasn't moved.4. I contacted Avast Customer Care and was told the problem was 'now resolved and an update should be pushed out shortly.'

Unfortunately my definition of 'resolved' must be different from the person who wrote the email, because Avast Cleanup Premium doesn't work any better now than it did when I bought it.5. After following your advice I have not heard from anyone. Can you give me a glimmer of hope that anyone at Avast really cares that this product doesn't do what I paid for?Thank you. In the month since I posted my comment I haven't heard a peep from Avast. However, the good news is that I had a problem with another program (Snagit) and emailed that company asking if they had a solution.

Their customer service is outstanding. They immediately offered a number of solutions by email that didn't quite solve the problem so finally their tech guys rang me and got the problem fixed over the phone with share screen. When the Snagit problem got fixed, suddenly the Avast cleanup also started working. So while Avast's customer service still rates bottom of the pile with me, maybe they can thank the tech guys at Snagit for their dedication and persistence that as a side benefit also probably fixed Avast cleanup. (Maybe it was just coincidental timing, but it's funny that it happened at the same time.)Avast - you could learn a lot about genuine customer service from the company that makes Snagit (Tech Smith)! I can't rate them highly enough.

Hi Bobcat, I'm glad that things were resolved. It's possible that somehow, an issue with SnagIt was interfering with Cleanup - or that an update was applied to Cleanup that resolved the issue. In either case, I appreciate your update.I apologize that if for some reason, your email was not received properly. We reply personally to emails sent there, so I'd encourage you to try emailing us there again with a different email address just to rule out any issues. We do want to be available to help if you encounter any problems in the future, and we thank you for your patience. Also, we recently updated our support portal - we're constantly working to improve the support process and we hope that it's useful for you. Here's the new link.

Hello to everyone who's following this thread:I too am interested in improving performance. My notebook (Dell Inspiron 11, 3000 series w/ Pentium) seems to be running slower ever since I upgraded to Windows 10.

I sometimes wonder if that was a mistake. But more to the point.Bobcat061 did what I've been contemplating. That is to pay Avast for their claim to improve performance by resolving a number of issues that initially came up during a scan.

Now whether it actually works or not is still a mystery for me, but for the roughly $24 it may be worth it to find out. After reading/following this thread it's clear that Avast should've taken a more active role in customer service. Instead of emails, wouldn't it have been more efficient to simply talk to the customer? If anything, getting directly involved in problem resolution prevents loss of confidence. Had Avast talked to Bobcat016 initially, perhaps they could've identified a possible conflict that their program encountered with Snagit and noted it for future reference. But not taking a more active approach sort of leaves a bitter taste from that experience. I'm now inclined to look for other programs/methods that could possibly improve performance (long wait times) unless Bobcat016 and others can review Avast's performance improvement program favorably.

I've been with avast for their virus protection for 6 yrs and have been happy with that service. I have had to call them for help and they were very responsive and fixed the issue. I have protection for all my pc's and also on our phones.I also had experience with an email address (not w/avast) where sometimes the servers do not deliver or deliver emails days or weeks late. The point being that email communication methods sometimes fail and it's worth picking up the phone to speak with a live person. With that, I came here to read the reviews on the clean up program as one of my machines (laptop) that is 6 yrs old is running slow (98-100% disc full) running on windows 10. After I run a backup I plan to sign up - and hopefully I can keep my machine running for another 6 yrs.

I'll come back and follow up with my experience once I've completed. My computer knowledge is better than most but not an expert by any means. Hey DarkOps - did you contact our support team directly? If so, please email us at avast-team@avast.com with the details you received and we'll do whatever we can to help.

Including additional information such as any other programs running in the background on your machine (in the event they are causing issues that somehow interferes with Cleanup) plus your Windows version and update build, will be very helpful for us.You may also want to try updating Cleanup as well to the latest version available, if you haven't done so already. If you didn't contact support already, you can do so here. I have several paid programs from Avast including Avast Cleanup Premium.About 2 weeks ago I get a message that my computer speed can be increased if I run Avast Cleanup Premium. So I ran the program and used some auto select features. Program stated that my computer would need to be restarted to apply the fixes.

So, after the restart my computer (Win 10 Pro) has never ran since. I previously had restore several points in the System Restore. Now System Restore says I have no Restore Points available. I tried Win 10 repair, I get the message that Repair was unable to fix my computer. I have no backup, which is my fault. So I love Avast antivirus and the reason I chose to install the Cleanup Premium was because of my prior experience with Avast. However, it ran through the diagnostic and came back with a whole bunch of 'issues' which it claimed to resolve.

Crypt of the NecroDancer PC Game Overview: Crypt of the NecroDancer is developed by Brace Yourself Games and published by Brace Yourself Games, Klei Entertainment. It was released in 26 Aug, 2017.

What it actually did was turn off a whole just about all of my services that are monitoring. For example, it turned off my fax receiving service. It turned off my weather alert service. It turned off my network intrusion alerts.

Avast Cleanup Premium Free Trial

It disabled my gadgets. Having done this it did not speed up my PC at all!!In fact it took forever to load the Cleanup software itself.HOWEVER THE NUMBER ONE ISSUE FOR ME WAS IT DISABLED ADOBE READER!!

So even after I uninstalled Adobe and re-installed it, i simply would not load anymore. I was completely dead in the water with hundreds of PDF's that I needed to open.Guess what?? As soon as I uninstalled Avast Cleanup, Adobe started working again.I cancelled my subscription (beware your are enrolled in automatic renewals 'at the prevailing rate' by default).I am very disappointed with this. I truly expected better from Avast. Agreed with everything you have posted, John.I also use Avast as a main antivirus, but cannot recommend to anyone their cleanup tool. Sometimes cleanup deletes files from the registry that windows still needs and you most likely get some problems after that. All these percentages 'your pc is speed up only 50%' are straight up.

You most likely can break your windows going up to 100% on clean up tool and all of your programs will be disabled by the tool. So is it worth it?

You won't get any performance boost doing that and you always need to keep an eye what files the tool is about to delete if don't want any issues after that. Hi Theron, agree with you 100%. I also use Avast for a long time. Last week i installed cleanup premium free trial subscription. Apparently it put all programs in sleep mode and/or deleted the critical data. From that point on I am unable use ant of programs incl internet It just starts thats all.

No use undoing sleep/wake! Their techs say its hardware problem and i should get local tech help. I am helpless as everything on there only i was unable to reset to backdate either.

Nothing is up???? I wonder if i can delete cleanup premium, i mean if, would it help? Any suggestions /help is very much appreciated.

To be fair to Avast, you really should have made a complete backup of your system before installing and running this utility.I would tend to agree with the Avast tech that your issues sound more like a hardware problem than an issue caused by Avast clean up.However, I think Avast could do a better job of detailing what it does and the potential consequences before it takes any action. It is pretty obvious to anyone that deleting your downloads will free up disk space however if you have not made copies of things you need then saving a few MB of space is not worth the trouble of having to find those downloads again. Can you go back to the repair option in windows? If not you may be faced with having to do a clean install. I would suggest that you get someone with experience to look at it first.
