People.the issue here you're all missing is very simple. If you're going to have to download 24GB of data just to start playing the damn game, then Steam should say so, regardless of where it comes from! Showing the intial 8.5GB front-end size is clearly misleading & I misconstrued this to be expanded to the 20GB disk space listed against the sys reqs, which is also completely wrong btw!

(I am actually somehow only using 17.7GBs in my FFXIV steam folder under common, go figure where 7GBs of download went lol!).And now I've also read online that the initial chunk is just for lower levels/zones, so when I hit level 20 or 30 I'll need to d/l yet another 10-20GBs??? FFS, can anyone please confirm this either way?

Must be talking about Free Trial. Because usually the client will download everything besides Heavensward if you don't own it.This is steam and they have no power to control all 3rd party MMO's and they don't store all the latest patchs/updates. This has been common for a long time and if you have to complain then download the Non-Steam clients then.
