RESOLVED!(Error 1402 while attempting to re-install Office 2003 on Vista Home Professional)This was resolved for me by running the 'Fix-It' that resets registry security settings. It is at the following knowledgebase article:Then re-run the installThank you to the folks at the following forum/posttried to 'reply' to their post but their site crashed in the attempt.

I have been searching the forums all day and have come up empty. Skyrim starts for me and I can play but I have been having ctds so I decided to give Tes5Edit a try since LOOT says I have dirty files. But when I try to start Tes5Edit I get the error message 'Fatal: Could not open registry key: softwareBethesda SoftworksSkyrim.' It goes on to say that the game may have been recently updated and I should open the game launcher. Games for windows live pc. I did that, and I can play the game, but when I try to start TesEdit again I get the same error message. I did verify my game cache.

Tes5edit Could Not Open Registry Key Free

Not

I also have all of my Steam games in a game file instead of program files since I heard once that Oblivion plays better on windows 7 if you do that.Any help that anyone can give me would be vastly appreciated. Tes5Edit started, but then got hung up again because it couldn't fing the Skyrim ini. So I did what Mewtron said, more or less. I didn't have to uninstall SKSE. I just unticked all of the mods except for Skyrim and the DLCs, pulled my saves out of the saved games folder (documents/my games/Skyrim), started the game from my steam library and let it run until the first available save (at chargen) saved the game, exited the game, started Tes5Edit (which now works), deleted the new saved game, put my old saves back into the folder and turned all of my mods back on.I don't know why they don't post this work-around in the wiki or the mod description page. Hopefully that is because they will have the issue fixed soon.Anyway, a great big thank you to MercAngel and Mewtron. My issue is now fully resolved.
